Ketchikan FM community radio's funding is threatened to be cut by the state legislature. Representative Lynn Gattis says the state government needs " to evaluate the wants versus the needs." Funding will be reduced from $5 million to $2.5 million. Tyler Gallagher, Gattis' assistant, made a statement claiming “With the advancements in technology...there’s less of a need to maintain public service programming…"

Reading articles like this is more and more dispiriting to the future of public radio. State governments aren't seeing the medium as important as technology evolves. Public radio is getting lost among television and smartphone applications. I truly wish public radio would not lose funding and governments were more supportive of this medium. Public radio is important for communities and should not be cut off. Public radio needs to be alive in a digital age.
